He is passionate about nurturing creativity in young people and fostering a nonlinear, mistakes led environment.
"My thinking is rooted in freedom, creative actions, and expression.
Growing up in north west London, I was exposed to street football with players older and younger than me, in environments where freedom of expression was celebrated, and individuality was encouraged.
I believe the game belongs to expressive, creative players who aren’t afraid to do the unconventional. Those who are independent thinkers and are not risk averse.
I’m a huge advocate of creating environments that are mistake led and enrich players not hinder them."
-Joe Smith

Joe has also worked as a Coach at MK Dons Football Academy with their u12's Boys and is now a Technical Director at SCA Portland where he has helped cultivate a different way of thinking around developing players and Coaching challenging traditional models and frameworks to make the individual the center of the learning process and celebrate expressive and creative young people.
Joe grew up on a council estate/project in North West London Grahame Park Estate, one of the largest in Western Europe where he was exposed to street football. Due to the variability of the environment and the demands of playing mixed ages and ranges Joe developed a love for creative players and actions. Freedom, exploration and experimentation that lived on the street were however stifled in more organized club settings. Playing at professional academies in London in the late 90's and early 2000's Joe felt disillusioned with the risk averse nature of the adult centered surroundings and set about not allowing that to become prevalent in the environments he has gone onto set both as a Coach and leader.
